After swinging machetes for 25 years, I've seen my fair share—and nothing compares to this one. I received my Condor machete brand new in its factory box: the blade wrapped in plastic and the rugged leather sheath separately sealed for extra care. I’d heard the buzz about Condor tools, and after trying this Golok for its perfect size and shape, I now understand why it’s the best I’ve ever owned.
Right out of the box, the edge was razor-sharp. Its size makes it ideal for tossing into my backpack or clearing thick trails. The handle is rock-solid, with a comfortable curved design that keeps the tool securely in my grip throughout long days in the field. No wobbly handles here like with some cheaper machetes.
The leather sheath is a standout—far superior to the typical nylon ones. It protects the blade whether it’s in my backpack or slung at my side. Sure, I once left the machete in my car overnight and a bit of rust appeared from the temperature swing, but a quick sanding made it as good as new. Just a minor reminder to keep it in a more stable environment.
I’m no sharpening expert, but maintaining its edge is effortless with my trusty honing puck and oil. Even after extensive use, this machete holds up brilliantly. It’s the last one I’ll ever need in this size; if I ever add another, it’ll be a larger Condor.
I love every aspect of this tool, and I’m excited to share my experience. If you have any questions or want to know more, feel free to ask!
I bought my Condor after getting frustrated with my Gerber machete—trying to get a decent edge on it was a real challenge. My brush-cutting tasks aren’t too intense, but the Gerber felt more like a club, and I even had an incident where my wife nearly ruined its edge on a bench grinder, then further damaged it when she tried sawing through a stone. While I never managed to bend its blade, I’d heard others had that issue.
From the moment I unboxed the Condor, I knew I made the right choice. The hardwood handle fits perfectly with the tang, and although the wood felt a bit dry at first, a dab of beeswax gave it a beautiful semi-matte satin finish. The blade came razor-sharp straight out of the box—no extra work needed, contrary to what some might say.
The blade’s thickness is impressive—about 6 mm near the handle, tapering to 2–3 mm at the tip—which means it won’t bend unless you really try to force it. Its convex grind, much like an axe, lets me take down branches up to 5/8" in diameter in just a couple of swings.
I appreciate how the heft of the blade adds power, even if it does make the tool a bit heavy to carry. The handle, being thick and nearly round, adds to that robust feel, though it does contribute to the overall weight.
Then there’s the sheath. Unlike the flimsy cordura sheath that came with my old Gerber, the Condor’s thick, heavy leather sheath is superbly made. With its oiled black finish, embossed Condor crest, and a belt loop that pivots out of the way when I sit, it’s both practical and stylish. While you might find a deal on the machete alone, I believe the extra value of this quality sheath is well worth the price.
After a year of serious use—even chopping down a 4" Chinese elm on a challenging day—I can confidently say this Golok has earned a fifth star in my book. It handles medium-sized brush like a champ and continues to impress me every single time I put it to work. I truly love this tool, and it’s become an essential part of my daily tasks.
